Gold products
At a glance
The specification a quote would be written against; no supply is in place yet.
| Form | Fineness | Typical format | Assay | Export position from Uganda |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Refined gold bars | 999.9 or 999.0 | 1 kg kilobar; 100 g to 500 g and 10 oz on specification | Fire assay on arrival; independent umpire if results differ | Export permit (Form 52) for each consignment. The ministry reports a 99.9% refining requirement. |
| Gold doré | Typically 85–90% gold | Mine-poured bar | Melt sample; fire assay; umpire | Unresolved. The Act sets no purity figure; the 2024 regulation text has not been confirmed. |
| Granules and casting grain | 999.9 | Grain, specified by size | Fire assay | As refined gold |
Refined gold bars
The priority product. Refined bars normally carry the refiner's mark, weight, fineness and a serial number. No Ugandan refinery is on the LBMA Good Delivery List, so bars are assayed by the buying refinery on arrival, and the price basis reflects that. Refined gold bars: specification, assay and documents.
Gold doré
Doré is the unrefined bar poured at a mine, valued on its assayed gold content. It is how most mined gold moves to refiners worldwide. Whether Uganda currently permits doré exports is unresolved: the Mining and Minerals Act sets no purity figure, and we have not been able to read the 2024 regulation reported to require refining. We record doré requirements and tell buyers what is possible. Gold doré: valuation, assay and Uganda's rules.
Granules and casting grain
Refined gold in grain form for jewellery and industrial manufacturers, specified by fineness and grain size. It follows the same export route as refined bars. Gold casting grain explained.
What we will not quote
Raw or alluvial gold offered for export, gold concentrate and ore. Uganda's ministry has said exported gold must be refined, and offers of unrefined "Ugandan gold" for export are a common scam pattern. Uganda gold scams and supplier checks.
