How we label evidence
Where a factual statement on Uganda Gold Report depends on a source, we label how strong its evidence is, and each page shows when it was last reviewed. The labels are:
- Verified: we checked it ourselves against the original record, document or inspection.
- Official: it is stated in an official register, list, gazette or government publication.
- Independently evidenced: it is supported by credible independent sources we have reviewed.
- Inference: our own reasoning or calculation from the sources cited.
- Reported: a credible secondary source reports it, and we have not confirmed it independently.
- Claimed: only the party concerned says it.
- Unverified: no accessible source confirms or refutes it.
- Planned: it is intended but not yet in place.
- Subject to verification: it is under review, and you should not rely on it yet.
- Not found in sources checked: we searched the named sources and found nothing. This does not prove that something does not exist.
Our rules
- We prefer primary sources: laws, regulations, official registers, government statements and court records.
- We quote official sanctions and licence records with the date we checked them. We never extend a designation to anyone not named on the list.
- We do not describe any named person or company as fraudulent. Where a court or the police has made a statement, we report it as that body's statement.
- "Not found" never becomes "unlicensed" or "fake".
- Each page shows when it was last reviewed. Material corrections are shown on the page with the date.
What our pages are not
